loadsa different characters…

woo, more updating! and three within the same month! arnt you all lucky 😛

Quick updates are fun 🙂 updated a link to the right to a guy I work with who recently got bitten by the “blog” bug, Damien’s site is linked to the right, but if your a lazy sod just click here to get a new screen open to it.

Got given a company mobile (woo!) so give it a few months and we’ll be getting hassle from everyone which is expected, but when Jaymes is wanting to put in a helpdesk to manage it all, it wont be wanted.

Gotta sit and program in all the work numbers now tho, because they give us cheapo Nokia 2600’s which dont have bluetooth, manual entry sucks. 🙁

Expanded

I had to open my big mouth!
Guess the peace and rest will have to wait another few months, as theres been big changes here at the office.

Basically we are finishing a huge citrix deployment (aka “The Rollout” ) which was tacked onto the network rollout in September, which was tacked onto the computer rollout from August 2004 eek! (over 300+ computers, 32 sites, and loads of cabling)
We also have a disaster recovery site being planned and implimented in the future, and our Technology Park office is being worked on now with builders so there is physical networking to go in there once they are finished. Those are minor projects and/or tasks to be done.

So today we have “da boss” in visiting from upstairs, and he has came bearing news to us, some good some bad.

Two years ago the senior management decided that the company needed to expand its main office with more floorspace, it all gets a bit complicated from that point onwards regarding renting floorspace in the building next door to the company and moving departments around, then plans changed, got updated and went through at least 7 revisions.

so getting back on track, it’s now been confirmed that the moves will be going ahead in the future 🙂 which means re-jigging three floors of this building, and adding a extra “floor” to the network, oh what fun!

Which means our “rest” period is now rescheduled for June 2007, oh crap 🙁

At least its a decent wage now 😀

Light and whispy…

Another month, another update 😛

Well loads of things have changed in the past month or two, some are quite interesting to say the least! So starting with work and whats happening there.

All the project work from october is almost complete, just doing the usual “bugfixing” you do with IT projects (why do they never go smoothly?) and on the last “leg” of the rollout and that’s over 18 months of major work behind us 🙂
Some good news as well! all the hard work paid off and we finally succeeded, as of the 1st of February, there is now two more permenant members of staff at work in the department, and im one of them 😀
Hope this doesn’t mean that our health will suffer now! Andy (he’s one of the other engineers who was already permenant) is always injured or at physio, we blame his urge to play rugby. Jaymes our boss is now cripple #2 with a foot injury, muscle damage has put him on crutches for a few days to keep the weight off it. Im gonna go take out health insurance while i still can just in case!

Recently decided to give Ubuntu a try, Im not the best with Linux and I felt like giving it a stab as a “desktop” operating system, so grabbed the latest version and felt daring enough to jam it onto a Toshiba A60 laptop (courtesy of work) with an iffy wireless card.
Im amazed its working (yes I am posting this through Linux on the wireless connection!) and it was not that hard to set everything up, it all just worked out of the box bar the wireless card, which needs a couple of tweaks to get it working.
Its wierd, more so because its now user friendly and simple to set up 🙂

I have now lost track of what other things I was going to post!

Ah well, they will come back to me soon! 🙂

New Year, new other stuff…

Happy new 2006!

I love how WordPress is so easy to upgrade 🙂 delete all the old files, slap the new files in, slap in the config file and run the upgrade file. so this is now running version 2.0 which so far seems faster, if the web hosting doesnt fall over.

Spent the last few days couped up with a dodgy stomach bug… not the best of starts to 2006, but at least it wasnt severe.

Changed the look and feel until i can check and see if the old style i had works with the new version, it should but it’ll stay blue for a while.

now to go out finally! 😀

woah, heavy…

Well, good things come to those who wait.

I’ve been employed as a temp for the past two years for a company in Belfast, as an IT technician, got word recently that our job roles will be made permanent in the foreseeable future due to the urgent need of our posts.
I think part of that was due to the fact that I’m the only member who knows Cisco, was a key figure in fixing some vital servers when they died, and knows the most about the network 😉 and was being offered a job with another company 😀

I believe my line manager is happy, after nearly 5 years of campaigning to increase the size of a vital department of only 2 permanent members of staff up to 6 total, but I don’t know since the sod pissed off to Malta for a holiday eek

Also a month out of date, but I changed my motor from one of these:
Peugeot Partner Combi
(Peugeot Partner Combi Quiksilver 2.0HDI)
To:
Ford Fiesta
(Ford Fiesta Style 1.25)
Its a wierd decision, why change from a large 5dr vehicle with loads of power, to an underpowered 3dr city car? well I decided enough for functionality, I wanted a small functional car to drive instead 🙂

I also recently picked up City of Villians from NCSoft, and playing it with a few mates from an IRC channel I sit on, should be a blast to play in later levels, if I can stop getting myself killed so quickly 😛
