New Shoes

No, I havnt bought any new shoes, boots, trainers or anything like that…

Lostintheweb has moved! (*gasp*) to a new hosting provider, its still situated on a server rack in England.  Good news for us and bad news for anyone who relocated to India lately 🙂

A somewhat smooth migration as well from my old hosting company, to Krystal Hosting who have been more than helpful with all my questions, queries and general cock-ups, it might take a day or two for most ISPs to get the correct pointing information (*ahem* like BT) but its almost 100% working. I now get to play about with Cpanel for the next few months 🙂

So, its almost Christmas which means Tinsel, Christmas trees and wall decorations… unless you work in a company with a diverse racial background, which means you cant do anything without fear of offending them by celebrating your beliefs.
Fair enough most peoples beliefs this time of year is Turkey, Shloer, spending loads of money on fancy presents and having that strange aunt/uncle/step-parent/grandparent* visit who barely recognises or remembers you, yet you need to make the effort to welcome them.. when you havnt heard from them since last xmas where they lost control of themselves over your lovely front sofa.

Im also the scourge of Work currently, Myself and Damien have managed to get more people hooked on Heroes just before it goes on hiatus over Christmas and New Years… Im sure they are still cursing us now.

Silent Treatment

Okay, guess who let the site slip into the deep dark recesses of ignorance? 🙁

Well, its almost 3 months on from my last update, and I cant really point out that many changes yet.
First, I went and spent loads of moolah on a nice Xbox 360 (as if the gamer card on the right wasnt a big giveaway!) with Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, Chromehounds and Saints Row.
Put my fiesta through its 12,000 mile service which was almost a years worth of driving (ah crap, just remembered I have to tax it before the end of the month! bugger 🙁 ) This is interesting since my last three cars exceeded 20,000 before the end of a year! I guess im not driving as much as I used to.
Got a new phone, upgraded my Orange contract to a 3G contract with unlimited text bundle and all, and got a swanky little
Orange SPV M3100 (aka the HTC Hermies or TYTN as referred to in some countries) And surprisingly for a PDA phone, its not much larger than my old SE K750i
Im sure theres more to talk about, but it just gets boring.

Good news is that Battlestar Galactica season 3 started recently in the states, so it should be an interesting few months now! Also have gotten hooked on a new TV show called “Heroes” from America which is very interesting indeed! its only on its first season but it is entertaining to watch in some regards.

[sarcasm]Oh Lost season 3 is back as well, oh yay![/sarcasm]
As you might have guessed, im not the biggest fan of Lost now, due to their constant (ab)use of the Flashbacks, im all for backstory but when the show features more backstory than current story there is definately something wrong. (watch me get flamed for this in the comments!)

Also if you use A WordPress blog, a major thing to “invest” in is the Akismet Plugin for defeating those comment spam bots some moron decides to use when your site gets listed in technorati or other blogging sites. Its one of the “must haves” and I feel that WordPress should include it in their next release because it is that useful!

Right, thats enough waffling for tonight 🙂 think I’ve padded this out enough to give some people migranes when they read it!

Now to get back to posting random crap on the Freddyhouse Forums 🙂

this post was written using Windows Live Writer, because I felt daring enough to try it

Weekly update #9

Another week goes by and I dont update, im getting lazy!

So anyhow, last week was interesting, it continued to be excellent weather over here in Northern Ireland which was bloody strange, and even today its still got the sun out (fair enough it starts out gloomy tho)

So going back over the week previous, Wednesday went round to the Odyssey to check out the SS Nomadic in its sorry state (pictures in the Gallery) and had a chat with one of the guys from I believe, the SaveNomadic.com site and it was an interesting chat :)  Good to see how much interest the ship can create.

Also first of the Barbeque’s with my mate Davy at his house, 4 disposables and around 12 people… putting me in the mood to get my old Barbeque back and get it fired up at my house for the old 30+ parties 🙂

Other than that, business as usual of going round to visit friends and have a laugh enjoying the weather.

Kick-starting the Airsoft hobby once more, got myself a pair of guarder polycarbonate glasses (the C3 model which is now last years) and they work really well as sunglasses, might have to keep them in the car a lot more often now 🙂

Right back to work, almost lunchtime and needing fed.. probably a nice filled bagel perhaps today.

Delayed

By fuck its warm today!

So anyhow, back in work and havn’t updated in a week or two so better fill in whats going on.

Its been the Marching season so been with friends for most of it, and family for some of it.
11th Night was Bonfire night, so we went to a local Bonfire in Boyne Square in Larne (a few friends lived within walking distance from it so we were at theirs from earlier in the night)
I got a couple of decent photographs of it (now located in the new funky Gallery ) and we were almost ready to toast marshmallows from a distance of 50ft it was that warm.
So the 12th was a late rise (compared to wanting to leave at 9am) of just before mid-day and running up to Randalstown with two friends to watch the Larne “parade”
More funny hats and laughs than i’ve ever seen before, got a couple of good snaps but in two minds about putting them onto the gallery, primarily because it takes so long to upload half the pictures in the first place.

the 13th was a bit more interesting, was up at Glenarm Castle open day with family (for once i didnt drive \o/ ) so had a decent day dandering around the grounds looking at everything, had a few beers with family and got a wee bit burnt :(  courtesy of my sister only ever carrying factor15 i got a wee bit “red faced” for the rest of the weekend.  As usual I was out with my camera once more and got a few snaps of the day. (again not uploaded)

So roll round to today, and this is the 5th day of blisteringly hot weather and we have two fans to keep the room cool (we asked for 4, we recieved 1… how does that work? EEK!)

Also got a Northgate Techy in replacing a hard disk and power supply now, well he would be if he brought the power supply (funny how telling the helpdesk that the power supply blew up and is now dead didn’t seem to get the point across that well)

Anyhow back to work, need to stand in front of the fan for 20 minutes for its boiling here… roll on winter!

Melting…

Well thankfully it seems that the heatwave we have been “enjoying” for the past few days is almost over.

Just when we get round to raising a requisition for desk fans as well! 🙁

So while most people have been out enjoying the sun, We have had the unpleasant job of sitting in a building which is either (a) secretly a volcano or a microwave and is designed to generate excessive heat inside itself (b) still got its boiler on and heating pumping away (c) next door to the 7th layer of hell.
What doesnt help is when you go between the server room and the rest of the building, its around 19 degrees celcius in the server room so its comfortable for a while, then upon leaving its pure heatwave EEK im meeeellllllttttiiiinnnngggg…….

Its also the start of the marching season over here in NI, which means blocked roads, rioting, and people using the “sectarian” word lots in the news.  It also means large towering pires of wood, tires, furniture, and whatever other loose items could be tossed onto it to prove something.

What I have seen lately tho is impressive, communities around which the bonfire have been built came together and used it not as a sign of religious differences, but a means to hold an event which everyone can enjoy.  A marquee with a DJ, outside catering and a proper band.
The only problem is peoples fears and intimidation because of “racial and religious differences” which is played up to hell courtesy of the media, My current job (and when i worked in FG’s in larne) have me running around the country and entering “polar opposite” areas of religion to myself, and theres always an underlying fear because im “not one of them” and i might be singled out.
Whos fault is that? the people who live there in relative peace, or the newspaper who are quick to jump onto the “sectarian attack” motive every couple of weeks?

Better get back to work, the one fan is helping keep this room cool, and theres no sun so we arnt boiling 🙂
