Well thankfully it seems that the heatwave we have been “enjoying” for the past few days is almost over.
Just when we get round to raising a requisition for desk fans as well! 🙁
So while most people have been out enjoying the sun, We have had the unpleasant job of sitting in a building which is either (a) secretly a volcano or a microwave and is designed to generate excessive heat inside itself (b) still got its boiler on and heating pumping away (c) next door to the 7th layer of hell.
What doesnt help is when you go between the server room and the rest of the building, its around 19 degrees celcius in the server room so its comfortable for a while, then upon leaving its pure heatwave
 im meeeellllllttttiiiinnnngggg…….
Its also the start of the marching season over here in NI, which means blocked roads, rioting, and people using the “sectarian” word lots in the news. It also means large towering pires of wood, tires, furniture, and whatever other loose items could be tossed onto it to prove something.
What I have seen lately tho is impressive, communities around which the bonfire have been built came together and used it not as a sign of religious differences, but a means to hold an event which everyone can enjoy. A marquee with a DJ, outside catering and a proper band.
The only problem is peoples fears and intimidation because of “racial and religious differences” which is played up to hell courtesy of the media, My current job (and when i worked in FG’s in larne) have me running around the country and entering “polar opposite” areas of religion to myself, and theres always an underlying fear because im “not one of them” and i might be singled out.
Whos fault is that? the people who live there in relative peace, or the newspaper who are quick to jump onto the “sectarian attack” motive every couple of weeks?
Better get back to work, the one fan is helping keep this room cool, and theres no sun so we arnt boiling 🙂
