Fresh lick of paint…

by Colin on Nov.16, 2007, under News, Ramblings

Another painless upgrade to WordPress, and a new theme to give a bit more “space” to the page.

There seems to be a growing style of “squashed”  themes where its all clumped down the middle of the page with huge white bars either side of it, so I went for one which fills most of the page.  All I need to do now is to do some quick modification and it’ll be sorted.

Also went to stick WordPress Gallery Embedded (WPG2) onto this blog again, only to discover its a bit of a disgruntled employee… doesn’t want to work and if it can get away with it, wont :(   So it’s been stripped off for the time being until I can figure out how to get it working.

Im also back to my old K750i which I had to fix, the SPV M3100 just has been bugging me with in-car bluetooth issues lately in the Qashqai.  Good news is the K750i does work, but I dont know for how long!

Out with the Old…

by Colin on Aug.30, 2007, under News, Ramblings

So, almost 2 years ago (circa November ’05) I went and exchanged my old Peugeot Partner, for a new Ford Fiesta 1.25 Style.
Ford Fiesta 2005 3Dr silver Photo

This was because the Partners fuel economy was closer to a Hummer than its figures made out, so it was effectively costing me loads to drive to work and back each week. A minor niggle back then was also the fact that I was a temporary employee for who I work full time for now, You never do get “job security” when your a temp. so changed cars to something more affordable in case the SHTF (shit hit the fan)

So, 2 years later and I’ve been Permanent for over a year and a half and still driving the Fiesta has proven one minor flaw in my plan. Boot Space.
The Boot in the Fiesta might be “big” for its class, but its bloody tiny when you work in IT. constantly having to fold down the back seats to get stuff in and out gets annoying after a while, so I decided to start looking for a bigger car over 2 months ago.
Ended up last week picking up a brand new Nissan Qashqai 1.5d Acenta from Charles Hurst Nissan in Newtownabbey, fair enough its not as big as some of the Estate cars I had been looking at (like the Mondeo Titanium estate) but its big enough for me.

Nissan Qashqai

I’ve also started kicking myself into gear to getting all my Airsoft stuff sorted out for going again, just shortly before the VCR Act starts to affect us.  Picked up a nice M16 SPR (Mk 12 Mod 1) AEG from RSOV in Hong Kong for cheap, its one of these dreaded Chinese clones (aka Cheapsoft) so it might develop a fault but its all simple gearboxes and motors at the end of it all… dead simple to fix. All thats left is some load-carrying equipment and I am ready to go.

Now to go and attempt to upgrade my phone (Orange SPV M3100) to Windows Mobile 6…

Zoot, Zoot

by Colin on Jan.16, 2007, under News

So, random title or what? :)

Yesterday morning Damien was poking around AintItCoolNews when he spotted something about a Ghostbusters Game.
Bit of poking about later spots it popping up on Kotaku and Destructoid but they keep talking about it being a possible fake, destructoid being closer to the mark realising that its from a company called ZootFly
Just so people know what im referring about, heres the lovely imbedded Youtube video of one of the clips

More available at the Youtube link for BostjanZoot

So I fire off a nice quick and simple email to their Info address, asking a simple question.. is the video footage concept for the licence, or is it being worked at now?
Low and behold this morning, A nice response from Bostjan Himself, the CEO of Zootfly (hows that for customer support)

In his email he states the following:
We are very glad to see the overwhelming response to the Ghostbusters prototype movies. What you’ve seen is indeed in-game footage of early prototypes on the Xbox 360, running on ZootFly’s proprietary engine.

All I can add so far is, Good luck to ZootFly in getting the Ghostbusters IP, the videos rock :D

On a side note he did point out something else, because of the problems with getting any IP property they have jumped to another project called “TimeO” the synopsis is…
The game follows the adventures of two die-hard New Yorkers. They get trapped deep in the shadow world of a parallel New York. The city itself is a war machine threatening to wipe out our world and they have three days to stop it.

Sounds promising? well check out the two teaser trailers for TimeO direct from my friend and yours, youtube.

Only thing I can add to these is wow! :)

Tweaks

Wahay! Think I have this all working.

the Lostintheweb Gallery is Back and operational with the funky Gallery2 until an exploit renders this gallery useless.

Also got my hands on a small black Nintendo DS lite on Friday there, forgot how good it is to just be able to pick something up and have a quick blast on it without having to set tonnes of things up, sadly im not going to drop my wireless encryption to “wet paper bag” level so I can play online, i’ll just go to Starbucks and play it there while I have a drink.

Lets see if that image breaks something :)

Another huge change to the site. Coppermine gallery (and all the plugins are gone) courtesy of a huge exploit which killed half the files on my site, and had posts nuked and/or added.

So i’ve dropped Gallery2 into its place instead, still tweaking and need to find if theres a plugin for wordpress to show photos in this.
wonder if theres a sidebar widget for gallery2 yet :)

woah, heavy…

by Colin on Nov.28, 2005, under News

Well, good things come to those who wait.

I’ve been employed as a temp for the past two years for a company in Belfast, as an IT technician, got word recently that our job roles will be made permanent in the foreseeable future due to the urgent need of our posts.
I think part of that was due to the fact that I’m the only member who knows Cisco, was a key figure in fixing some vital servers when they died, and knows the most about the network ;) and was being offered a job with another company :D

I believe my line manager is happy, after nearly 5 years of campaigning to increase the size of a vital department of only 2 permanent members of staff up to 6 total, but I don’t know since the sod pissed off to Malta for a holiday eek

Also a month out of date, but I changed my motor from one of these:
Peugeot Partner Combi
(Peugeot Partner Combi Quiksilver 2.0HDI)
To:
Ford Fiesta
(Ford Fiesta Style 1.25)
Its a wierd decision, why change from a large 5dr vehicle with loads of power, to an underpowered 3dr city car? well I decided enough for functionality, I wanted a small functional car to drive instead :)

I also recently picked up City of Villians from NCSoft, and playing it with a few mates from an IRC channel I sit on, should be a blast to play in later levels, if I can stop getting myself killed so quickly :P

Lights Part 2

by Colin on Aug.04, 2005, under News

Quick update, they finished filming at lunchtime, they had lennox lewis there as well as Samantha Mumba lurking somewhere nearby, they had a few different scenes to do then that was it. cleaned up and disappeared.

I stuck the two decent camphone pics into the Gallery and i’ll see if i can dig the digicam pics out of the works camera later of them packing up.

amazing how long it takes to get what is in essence, 5 minutes of screentime! no wonder movies are big budget these days!

Lights! Camera!

by Colin on Aug.04, 2005, under News

No, im not started an acting career, but we got the film crew outside of work today.

Another independant film company has chosen the wonderfully scenic view of North Street in belfast for a few scenes for a movie in production called Johnny Was starring Vinnie Jones and Samantha Mumba. Quite interesting watching Vinnie and a few of the actors fluff their lines and suffer at the hands of ignorant drivers getting held up ;)

Got a couple of pictures on the cameraphone which i’ll upload later to the Gallery of our view, making me wish i had brought my digital camera into work with me now! could have got some great photos of it as well :D

interestingly a lot of major movies are using parts of Northern Ireland for scenes in movies, but its still strange when they use a small disused corner of a run-down street for a large scene. They have been here since before 6am from what we’ve heard from security in other buildings getting the place ready, its now half 11 and they are still shooting, for this one scene!

to give you an idea of the scene itself so you can spot it and go “that’s where colin works!” :) It involves the Brixton Sole van and a metal fence, Vinnie and two others get out of the van (Vinnie is supporting a guy who has an injured leg) and talk to a guy whos came out of a grey grafitti’ed door. Its somewhat like a “safe house” scene.

im interested in seeing it as the passenger-side of the van itself is “riddled” with bulletholes, and of course with it being shady Northern Ireland Terrorists, it has to involve guns and bombs somewhere! :D

post more later, im off to lean out the window once more to see what else is happening!

Blooming Marvellous

by Colin on Jun.10, 2005, under News

Sometimes you have to jump up and bite it in the butt

Last night, my parents went into Partnership with Ian Lough (one of the three brothers of the Lough shops in Larne) to own and run Broadway Blooms.

Its a funny story how this all came about and i’ll fill it in some time, dont want to put too much information up here just yet until I get the full picture, but the original owner (Name Ommitted) decided she had enough of running the shop and left it to the shop owner Sandra (she owns the physical shop, but not the business) to deal with. My parents decided to give it a shot and got a hold of Sandra last night to organise everything :)

on a funny side note, in secondary school when you done those wierd questionaires as to what your Career in life would be… mine came back as a “flower arranger” Eek6
